Out of every 1,000 births in 2013, about 34 were twins according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report. Preliminary data for 2014 will be released in a couple months.
The reason for the increase has been attributed to fertility treatments and the growing trend of having children later in life (30s and 40s) which can contribute to multiple births. However, the rate of triplets has reduced due to advances in fertility treatments.
