How Many Pregnancy Ultrasounds Are Too Many?

Do you have an ultrasound every time you visit your doctor? The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine both recommend limiting ultrasounds to only medically necessary times in a low-risk, uncomplicated pregnancy. The recommended number of scans is just 1-2, whereas the average number women get is 5. There is no evidence of ultrasounds causing long-term effects in mom or baby, but the potential is not fully understood.
