As parents, we often do the best we can when it comes to teaching our children discipline. We read advice in magazines or hear tips passed on from other parents and try it out on our own kids, hoping it will work for us, too. Unfortunately, a lot of bad, or just not very smart, advice gets passed around and some of our discipline techniques may actually be doing more harm than good for our children. One great tip? Cut down on the yelling. As frustrating as it can be when our children misbehave, yelling doesn’t really do anything to change the root of the problem, and instead just scares your child. Instilling fear in them is not the way to change the behavior that you’re trying to discipline. Furthermore, the more rules you have, the more tempted your child might be to break them.
