For children who need an inhaler, it can be stressful for both child and parent. There’s nothing to be done about it, it’s just a reality for children who have trouble breathing. But the worst nightmare is that something will come between them and their medicine.
The family of 9-year old Emma Gonzales has accused the Jordan School District of preventing their daughter to use an inhaler when she was having an attack. There had apparently been miscommunication between the parents and the school regarding her need for one, so she wasn’t allowed to use it out of fear that it might not be truly hers.
The district disputes these claims, but there’s a lesson in all this – when your child has an issue that could pose dangerous to themselves or others, it’s important for everyone involved in their well-being to be informed.
Emma Gonzales ultimately managed to get through the attack without her inhaler, though she claims she coughed so hard that she vomited. Happily, she’s since recovered.
