Paul Ryan vs. Family Leave

When you have a family, sometimes you need have to deal with priorities. Your family always comes first. But what if you have a job? This is the point of family leave, to give people a chance to be with the most important people in their world. But there are some people who feel that family leave should not be a big thing.

And one of them is Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Congressman and former vice presidential nominee. He has voted againast paid paternal leave for federal employees, he doesn’t offer maternity or paternity leave to his staff, and he delayed H.R. 1439, the Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act. That’s a consistent history of denying family leave. Which is what makes it so annoying when Paul Ryan, while discussing his potential place as Speaker of the House, says something like “I cannot and will not give up my family time. I may not be able to be on the road as much as previous speakers…
