Telling the Future, using APGAR

For decades now, doctors have been using the APGAR score to help determine if a newborn is in need of emergency medical attention. These situations are imperative for the baby, but just as important for the mother, it turns out.

Dr. Joel Ray recently published a study through JAMA Pediatrics, and how found that babies with lower APGAR scores typically correspond with mothers who need to transfer to the ICU. Mothers with lower scores were are even nine times as likely to end up in the ICU than other women.
