Take it from someone who’s done it – marathons can be tough. They require a state of mind that can be next to impossible to achieve, the health to actually complete it, and the sheer gall to force your body through it.
It’s tough. You know what else is insanely tough? Giving birth.
Researchers from the University of Michigan have concluded that giving birth is arguably the most traumatic event the human body can undergo. 15% of women who give birth end up sustaining lasting injuries, which is more than people who go through extreme sports! “If an athlete sustained a similar injury in the field, she’d be in an MRI machine in an instant,” said Janis Miller, associate professor at the University Of Michigan School Of Nursing. But the world ends up expecting women to just recover and be back on their feet immediately.
So, to each and every other marathon runner out there, whoever complains about the pain? Trust me. It could be worse.
