Every Christmas, whenever I tell my children about Santa, I do feel this twing of guilt. Because I remember how much I believed in Santa, and how sad it was to discover that there was no jolly fat man who lived at the North Pole and used reindeer to fly around the world in one night. I was a kid! And I believed in him so much. We forget how devestating it can be.
Belle Adams, for example, is a ten year old girl from Maryland. In the last week, she’s been confronting her mother, Nikki, over the existence of Santa. When Nikki finally relented and admitted that no, there is no Santa, Belle decided to respond with a handwritten note, slamming her parents for lying about it for so long. It even ended with a hand drawn middle finger emoji.
The mother in me is surprised and understanding. The girl in me loves it. This is why I love the internet. This little girl makes me chuckle sympathetically with the parents, and the child inside me wants to hug Belle for it.
