History is built on mistakes, and learning from them. It’s the entire premise of scientific method – see if it works, if it doesn’t, try something else. Repeat until you find what’s right. It’s just another reason I’m so happy we live in a pretty advanced world, all things considered.
Past generations of mothers didn’t have all the readily available knowledge at their disposal, so sheer craziness like “don’t think bad thoughts, it’ll poison your breast milk” or even “pregnancy corsets” were par for the course.
