Making the Case Against Home Schooling

School is one of the most important and influential aspects of a child’s life, something that will matter for the rest of their lives. But what way to do it is really for the best? Every parent has their own experiences , and their own opinions on the subject. But one parent is especially not a fan of home schooling – because she did it herself.

Bethany Ramos with SheKnows was raised in a household that enforced homeschooling, and she is not a fan of the experience. She said, “It was my father who wanted the homeschooling, but my mother had to execute it as our home teacher. Every damn day. Even as young as 5 years old, I could remember thinking that my mom was a teacher who really didn’t want to be there. I felt the reluctance, I felt the burden and I felt the frustration as I was forced to study independently most of the time so that she could tend to my younger brother and sister….”

  1. Homeschooling isn’t for everyone and the teaching parent shouldn’t be forced into it. However, the majority of homeschoolers have a positive experience. Parents know their children better than anyone and can tailor fit their child’s education in ways that can’t be done in public school. Children in school spend the majority of their day with people who don’t care about them like their parents do. Homeschooling is how our country started out and has done some amazing things! The choice is up to every parent on what is best for their child and their situation.
