The baby food aisle just seems to get longer and bigger with every year. It’s almost ridiculious how many choices we have, and how hard that can make it when we need to get food for our babies. But it seems that some of the most popular choices might not be as safe as we previously thought.
Dr. Nicol Awadalla is a fellow in the department of developmental and behavioral pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, and she’s been conducting a study comparing them to AAP recommendations. The idea is to find how lonng it takes to dissolve the food in your mouth without using your teeth, to replicate how long it would take for a baby to have the food.
And it seems that only two of the nine items she tested managed to meet those standards, Gerber Graduates Fruit Pickups: Diced Apples and the Gerber Graduates Veggie Pickups: Diced Carrots.
This is really troubling, because those other snacks might be harder to swallow. It’s important to keep an eye out for what you’re buying, and what it means for your child. Check out the full study right here.
