All children, at some point or another, will end up trying to snag something. It’s the nature of a developing morality system, something they have to adjust and learn from. And sometimes, it really can be just as simple as a misunderstanding. It’s not like they orchestrated and conspired to pull off this massive caper or anything.
Well, that’s what one school in Virginia was the actual actions of a student, Ryan Turk.
Ryan is on a budget plan, which allows for a box of milk. He forgot it, and returned to the line to grab one. A school officer saw this and, assuming that he was stealing it, decided to arrest him right then and there.
He was soon searched for drugs (because of course he was), and eventually arrested for larceny.
Even if he had stolen the milk, that’s something to be handled within the realm of the school and with the parents, not involving the law to try and settle an unnecessary juvenile detention court hearing.
Come on Virginia – you’re better than this.
