We spend so much time putting kids first, that we sometimes forget that the parents are their own people. It’s thought to be easier to refer to a mother or father as such when their children are around, but shouldn’t we be teaching them that parents don’t always revolve around them? While they do come first in their parents’ eyes, they should not be taught to group people together. They should be taught that everyone is their own person and should be identified separately when possible.
Key Takeaways:
- Besides, I’m not just mom. I’m a wife, and a friend, too. A daughter, and a sister. A writer, and a lover of coffee, yoga, good wine, and dark, really bitter chocolate. I love going to Disney World, and taking my dog for long walks. My favorite show is Shameless. Tied with Grey’s Anatomy. My favorite quote is “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” by Eleanor Roosevelt.
- I’m a person. But it seems the entire world has forgotten that.
- I have a name. I’m a person. Whose kids are going to bed right now. I guess I will cease to exist for the next 12 hours…
