If you or your child gets a viral infection think cold, flu, sore throat other than strep throat, bronchitis, or a viral sinus or ear infection stay away from antibiotics. Antibiotic misuse can result in harmful side effects and contribute to antibiotic resistance or super bugs that are tough to treat. For viral infections, instead of requesting antibiotics, ask your doctor if there are over-the-counter medicines that can help relieve symptoms.
