The author was initially against co-sleep and explains that her husband and she prefer to have space when sleeping. She also does not breastfeed which would have been a consideration in favor of co-sleeping due to convenience. The author’s daughter slept through the night at 2 months age but regressed at 8 months of age. On one particular night, she was brought onto the bed after tickling the author’s husband’s toes and after that night refused to sleep by herself, insisting on sleeping in the bed. This distressed the author, and forced her to begin living on coffee in order to stay awake through the days, while causing her to become slightly emotionally unstable. Eventually the author forced the child to sleep on her own again after four nights of not letting the daughter onto the bed, to the author’s relief.
Key Takeaways:
- Things were going great in the beginning. Our daughter started sleeping through the night at just 2 months old, and we were all happy because… well… sleep is truly priceless
- Then at about 8 months, she hit some major sleep regression, and things took a turn for the worse.
- The first couple of nights were rough, and I will admit I had to use the cry-it-out method. But she got the message once we were on night four
“Moral of the story: I needed to learn to tune out the noise and the mom guilt and focus on what was best for us all.”
