The Medicinal Walk

Aurora Husk goes to Bristol Elementary School in Vermont. But twice over the course of the day, she has to talk a walk around the block so she may receive one of her daily doses of hemp oil.

In the state of Vermont, medicinal marijuana is legal, so her mother Megan Vaughan has begun gibing her the oil, which is high in cannabidiol. Recent tests have led doctors to believe that such medicine could help treat the epilepsy Aurora suffers from.

But her school has denied her the ability to take her medicine in the school. They receive federal funding, and according to the school board, cannot make any exceptions for Aurora. Even though recent tests and cases indicate the oil is a godsend for ill children, and even though Aurora suffers from upwards of forty seizures a day without it, the school still refuses to allow her to take the medicine in the building.

So every day, Aurora and her mother have to spend fifteen minutes walking the block so she can take her medicine. It’s a waste of time, and could be remedied with a simple fix.
