2015 is almost over, and with New Years parties approaching to destroy our short term memory, it’s important to take a minute to think of the year gone by. In doing so, we can remember that we still have a ways to go.
This was the year that federally mandated maternity leave was debated, fought over, and ultimately, had nothing happen. This was the year where reproductive rights was fought on every possible battlefield. This was the year our children were belittled for what they choose to wear, by schools.
This was sort of a rough year. And by sort of, I mean very very very unendingly rough. At every turn, even with the world spiraling out of control with every new day, people still found ways to make life more difficult for mothers, all in the name of protecting families.
But there’s always hope, and resolve, and the sheer will power to keep going. No, we did not win these battles yet, but it isn’t a battle. It’s a war. And we have to make sure we remember that this year, and that we never let up. That we don’t back down. We’re stronger than they know.
Let’s show them.
