The Birth Bacteria

A recent study by JAMA Pediatrics has found links between the type of birth and what kind of bacteria develops.

According to tests, babies delivered vaginally are born with more Bacteroids in their system, which help develop a strong immune system. Meanwhile, a link has been found between c-section birth and higher levels of staphylococcus.

Now what do we do with this information? According to Dr. Juliette Madan, one of the doctors behind the discovery, next is to learn “how the gut microbiome works with training the immune system and how it relates to health outcomes in general.”
