McDonald’s has been struggling to remain relevant in a day and age where we actually care about what food goes into our bodies. They’ve tried healthy food, they’ve tried greasier food, but now they’re appealing to parents.
Until February 15th, the fast food chain will not have pint size toys with their Happy Meals like they’ve always had, but small paperback books. According to the Los Angeles Times, the company will distribute over seventeen million books to children this year. There are four options – three Valentine’s themed stories (Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff & Felicia Bond, Clark the Shark Takes Heart by Bruce Hale & Guy Francis, and Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool by Kimberly & James Dean), as well as the classic Paddington by Michael Bond & R.W. Alley.
Meanwhile, they’ll be donating 100,000 books to the nonprofit organization Reading is Fundamental. And it’s very nice to see the fast food chain making an effort. Now if only their food was any good, at all.
