If your schools growing up were anything like mine, then during the spirit weeks, you’d have theme days. Lots of fun, and a chance to compete amongst one another, all while following a fun theme. But one student, who was fulfilling his spot in the festivities, also got in trouble for it.
Thirteen year old Austin Lacey from California came to school in an elaborate outfit from Frozen, wig and all. The principal confronted Austin, asking him to remove the costume because boys can’t dress like girls, apparently. While he doesn’t identify as transgender or desperately feels the need to wear a dress himself, the experience (which apparently includes the school district having a large scale ban on boys dressing in girls clothes), he’s taken the reaction as an impetus to fight for other student’s rights.
Fliers went around the school, and students from around the school started coming to class wearing clothing belonging to the other gender.
