Motherhood is an incredible experience, but learning how to raise a child can be a struggle, especially if your own mother isn’t there to guide you. There are a plethora of books and information available on child care, but nothing can teach you better than the experience itself.
There is a beautiful story over at Scary Mommy on this theme. Sarah speaks with her six year old about her new baby, and how to be a mama. She recalls how hard it was to raise her daughter without her mother there, never able to experience the rite of passage. Though she was surrounded by other mother figures who helped her and taught her many things, as days turned into months and then years, she ultimately learned the most from simply raising her baby.
There is no such thing as a perfect mother, and we’re all doing the best we can with what we have. You learn how to be a mom by being a mom, and taking each day as it comes.
