Parents are not perfect, so its important to learn how to apologize to your child. Even though its never fun to be wrong, this is a great opportunity to show your child good behaviors in tough situations. Unfortunately, its not always that easy since hurts feelings might be involved and the apology may not come out well. There are three parts to a good apology: (1) admission of guilt, (2) saying you are sorry and (3) committing to a change. There is also times when a parent may apologize for circumstances, such as when something goes wrong. The important part is to not negate the apology with a “but” statement. Finally, empathy is key and its important to recognize how your child will view the apology and plan accordingly.
