Every stage of your baby’s development brings big changes, and sometimes you can’t appreciate things until they’ve already passed. If you’re a first time mom with a newborn, you might feel like you’re spinning in a crazy sleep deprived, poop-filled tornado, but things aren’t as bad as you think. Just wait until you have a toddler on your hands!
This entertaining article from Scary Mommy makes some great points. Young babies are relatively easy to care for, aside from deciphering mystery cries. Your goal is to keep them alive and healthy. They sleep a lot, when they’re not crying they’re quiet, and they sit still.
Toddlers, on the other hand, sleep less (and may skip naps altogether), tend to be obnoxiously loud when crying and whining over doing normal things they simply don’t want to do, and require not only the same basic care they did as babies, but also require emotional support as they learn to become more independent. How exhausting!
