Colic – When Does It End?

A friend of Mrs. Smoothie just had their third baby, and they are in the throes of colic after having two easy babies. First, for parents that haven’t experienced colic, it’s hard to convey the extreme difference in having an easy to soothe baby and a baby with colic. Around the same time, there was this interesting shift among her mom friends with babies the same age. Mrs. Smoothie would wake up with a jolt thinking she dropped the baby because she had her in my arms constantly during the day.

Key Takeaways:

  • First, for parents that haven’t experienced colic, it’s difficult to convey the extreme difference in having an easy to soothe baby and a baby with colic.
  • Colic is serious. It can take a mental health toll on parents.
  • Hopefully, you have an easy, calm baby. But if not, remember life will get easier and there is a lot of fun and love ahead. But don’t hesitant to ask for help if you need it, because colic is way beyond a fussy baby.

“Comparing my son’s babyhood to my daughter’s, we actually felt more stress with a colicky baby. My son’s medical journey with a congenital heart defect was terrifying, but at least we knew what the problem was, and had a team of doctors to help manage it.”
